Stormproof windows are a modern variation of the traditional casement window, they give enhanced weatherproofing as the sash section lips over the window frame section.
This window style has opening sashes which swing out like a door, the window sections are manufactured from solid timber and would be mortice and tenon joined together. The opening sashes can be hung on traditional stormproof butt hinges or the more modern friction type hinges which allow the window to stay open without the need for casement stays. The stormproof window design allows for a wide choice of ironmongery in various finishes as this is probably the most common window style being manufactured at this time.
