Closed Tread Staircases
Closed tread stairs are the most common type of staircase seen in our homes, this type of staircase is manufactured with full treads and risers which are joined to form the steps, there are no visible gaps in this form of staircase. These staircases are usually carpeted or in the case of hardwood, feature staircases can have decorative lacquer finishes applied.
Open Tread Staircases
Open tread staircases are constructed using full depth treads with part open risers this gives the staircase a more open and light feel to it which may be preferable where light and space is at a premium. These staircases are quite rare as the new more stringent building regulations will not allow gaps of more than 99mm thus restricting the amount of light which passes through
