Replication of Cornice Mouldings and Windows

Case Study

A recent client approached us with a unique challenge: their historic property featured intricate cornice mouldings and hardwood windows that had deteriorated significantly over time, as you can see from the photo. The client was committed to preserving the architectural integrity of the building and wanted an exact replication of the original mouldings. Additionally, they needed replacement windows that would match the property’s traditional aesthetic.

The Challenge:
The existing cornice mouldings were in a poor state, with visible signs of wear and damage. The client wanted the new mouldings to be made from a durable and high-quality material that would stand the test of time while closely matching the original design.

Our Approach:
To begin the process, we carefully removed a small sample of the original cornice mouldings. This sample was then analysed to capture the exact dimensions, profiles, and details needed for accurate replication. Understanding the importance of both durability and aesthetic appeal, we chose hardwood for the new mouldings.

The Production Process:
Using the sample as a reference, our skilled joiners meticulously recreated the cornice mouldings. Each piece was carefully shaped and finished to ensure it matched the original design down to the smallest detail. The same attention to detail was applied to the windows, ensuring that they not only fit perfectly but also complemented the overall style of the property.

Results:
The replicated cornice mouldings are a perfect match to the original, seamlessly blending with the existing architecture. The use of hardwood ensured that the new mouldings were not only beautiful but also durable, capable of withstanding the elements for years to come.
